One step is one pass with a compound or polish and fixes most cars. Two steps is compound first, then polish, for older paint, dark colors, or anyone who wants it perfect. Most people add a ceramic coating right after to lock it in.

1-step or 2-step?
1-step fixes 70 to 80 percent of defects and is right for most cars. 2-step is for deeper scratches, older paint or dark colors.
Will it remove deep scratches?
If your fingernail catches in it, it's too deep to polish out. Everything lighter than that, yes.
Should I coat it after?
Yes. Corrected paint without protection swirls again. The ceramic deals include correction and coating together.
